John o' Groats (Taigh Iain Ghròt in Scottish Gaelic) () is a village in the Counties of Scotland of Caithness, in the Highland Council areas of Scotland of Scotland, and is usually regarded as the most northerly settlement on the mainland of Great Britain. The actual location of the most northerly point, however, is at nearby Dunnet Head ().

The name John o' Groats has a particular resonance because it is so often used in outlining the length of Great Britain when races, walks and charitable events take place between the Cornwall point, Land's End (at the extreme western tip of the Cornish peninsula in England) and John o' Groats. The phrase Land's End to John o' Groats is frequently heard both as a literal journey and as a metaphor for great or all-encompassing distance.

The punctuation and capitalisation in John o' Groats is the correct form. The space after o' appears to vary but was probably the correct older form.

The town takes its name from Jan de Groot, a Netherlands who obtained a grant for the ferry from the Scottish mainland to Orkney, recently acquired from Norway, from James IV of Scotland in 1496.

The local football team is John o' Groats F.C. who recently reached the semi finals of the Highland Amateur Cup but lost out to Point F.C of the Western Isles.

The Signpost The famous "journey's end" signpost at John o' Groats, like its counterpart at Land's End, is private property and owned and operated by a Penzance-based firm called Courtwood Photographic. Private photography is not allowed within the private property. To have your photo taken at the famous landmark, prices start at £9 GBP (2007 prices) and are sent out in the post at a later date. Many people mistakenly believe that the signpost was erected by the Highland Council for general public use, but that is not true. Courtwood Photographic used to put up a night post for people to use when they were closed, but vandalism, theft and people "having fun" forced them to make the decision to remove it at night. A free out-of-hours signpost is situated on the wall next to the First and Last souvenir shop and the harbour.
